The 2nd edition of the event took place during the “ECOdolomites Weekend” from the 16th to the 18th of September 2011. More than 30 people were enthusiastic on participating at the initiative of discovering the amazing Dolomites driving exclusively eco-friendly vehicles.
Not only e-bikes attended the event, but also the E-Mini, the Fisker, the Twike, the Tesla Roadster, the e-bus Ducato Metropolis, the hydrogen Hyunday Tucson and the hybrid cars of Toyota and Lexus.
Goal and challenge:
The main aim was to be able to manage the whole Sellaronda consuming the least energy possible.
Thanks to the FIA Formula (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) the energy consumption of 19 electric vehicles was tested on the spectacular and curvy track.
All the accredited participants departed from Corvara-Alta Badia and drove clockwise around the Sella massive: firstly, they did the Campolongo Pass, then the Pordoi and the Sella arriving for lunch in Selva-Val Gardena. In the afternoon, by doing the Gardena Pass, all the vehicles returned to Corvara.
The winners of the 5 categories:
|“City Car”||THINK CAR of the energy company EUM (Val Passiria)|
|“Big producers”||TESLA ROADSTER of the Häring Solar company|
|“Cars for work”||FIAT PANDA of SEA (S. Vigilio)|
|“Small busses”||MERCEDES SPRINTER of ENERBLU|
Astonishingly, the electric cars consumed only between 18% and 65% of the saved energy for the whole track (from 3.65 to 24.80 kWh). The explanation for this phenomenon is indeed very clear and convincing: while the car is driving downwards, the energy can be regained and stored in the battery. This shows that electric vehicles can be used without restrictions also in the Alpine Mountains.
As a very new entry the Mitsubishi I-Miev has to be named. Moreover, it was also possible to draw up a record: for the first time ever, a hydrogen vehicle was able to drive all the 4 Dolomite Passes!
